What Is Girl Guides

What is Girl Guides?
 

  • Girl Guides is open to all girls and women.
  • Guiding is the largest organization for girls and women in the world.
  • Girl Guides of Canada belongs to WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts).  As of 1999, there were 140 member countries.
  • Every member belongs to Girl Guides of Canada - Guides du Canada (adults, Sparks, Brownies, Guides, Pathfinders and Senior Branches all belong to Girl Guides).
  • Guiding has programs for girls aged 5 and up.
  • Adult members are volunteers.
  • Guiding offers training programs for adult volunteers.

 

 The programs that have been developed for the girls at each level all contain common elements. These elements include:

  • Commitment through the Promise and Law
  • Progressive Self-Development
  • Learning by Doing
  • Teamwork through the Patrol System
  • Service to the Community
  • Outdoor Activities
  • Active Co-operation between Youth and Adults
  • Symbolism

These common elements are used throughout the Guiding Movement.
